Winter is officially here! Is your fleet ready for snow?

Written by Leonard D'Orlando,

Winter is officially here and as the temperature drops, precipitation turns to ice and snow. With this change in season, it is time to consider the challenges that winter will bring. Being fully prepared is essential for maintaining efficiency and maximizing driver and vehicle safety.

It is critical this time of the year that proper winter service and maintenance of your vehicle fleet for the icy and snowy roads ahead is performed. One essential tool that can make a significant difference in ensuring the safety and efficiency of your vehicles is automatic snow chains. Onspot provides instant traction on slippery surfaces, eliminating the need for manual installation or removal of conventional chains. With the flip of a switch, your vehicles will be equipped with reliable and effective tire chains, allowing them to navigate through treacherous winter conditions with ease.

If your fleet is already equipped with Onspot, now is the perfect opportunity to conduct a thorough inspection and maintenance check to ensure the system is operating at its optimal level. The proper working condition of the system is crucial to guarantee the safety and efficiency of your vehicles on icy and snowy roads.

Perform a comprehensive inspection of the Onspot system, checking for any signs of wear or damage. Inspect the chain wheels for excessive wear on the rubber surface and chain links. Also ensure the chain wheel bearings spin freely.  Check all the arm pivot points ensuring that they are properly greased and move easily. Engage the system to ensure that the chain wheels contact the tire at centerline, at the correct height and angle, and with the right amount of pressure against the tire side wall.  Check control switches to ensure they are functioning smoothly and effectively. And lastly, it is also important to verify that all electrical connections are secure and free from any corrosion or loose wires, and all air lines and connections are leak free.

Take the time to train your drivers on the proper operation and maintenance of the Onspot system. Provide them with the necessary knowledge and skills to activate and deactivate the chains when needed. This will not only enhance their safety but also improve their confidence in handling challenging winter conditions.

By proactively maintaining and checking your Onspot system, you can avoid any unexpected issues or malfunctions during the winter season. This proactive approach will ensure that your fleet is always prepared to face any weather conditions, allowing for seamless operations and minimizing any disruptions to your business.
