Two different Onspot systems
If we look at Onspot worldwide, we see that there are two different Onspot systems. One is specific to the North American market and the other is used in rest of the world.
Do you know why the systems are different?
First, we need to answer why trucks aren’t the same on the five continents? Each piece of equipment evolves differently according to the country, the culture and the market. Therefore, Onspot has adapted by proposing market specific solutions for the ever-changing trucking industry.
Thus, the Scania of Sweden will be equipped with the International version of Onspot while the Mack of North America benefits from the North American version.
6, 12 or 18 chains?
After reviewing the different systems, I invite you to look at the chains themselves and you will see that there are several forms or sizes:
- The 6-strand chain wheel with the most powerful links gives the best grip in most road conditions, especially on packed snow and slush. We supply a 6-strand chain wheel as its standard chain wheel.
- The 12-strand chain wheel gives the best grip on ice and snow, with always two links between the tire and the road.
- The 18-strand chain wheel is a comfort wheel, which is good on ice and which you can’t feel that much in the vehicle.
These four types of chains come in two sizes: 170mm and 190mm. 20 mm apart is not much, but this has been studied to offer you the best performance according to the size of your tyres.
